The beautiful Spice Islands of Zanzibar lay just south of the equator close to the Tanzanian coast, and this exotic Indian Ocean archipelago is characterized by idyllic sandy beaches and coral reefs, rich culture and history, and the magic and mystique of its vibrant capital Stone Town. Few locations can lay claim to such paradise, complete with its vast selection of accommodation types for each and every taste, and all within a couple of hours of world-class safari destinations.
The most stunning geographical feature is Africa’s highest mountain: the majestic peak of Mount Kilimanjaro. Rising from the dry plains through a natural belt of alpine forest, heath, and moorland, it reaches an almost barren desert plateau before culminating in its snow-capped summit at 5,895 meters above sea level. Kilimanjaro is best ascended via the scenic Lemosho, Machame, or Rongai routes over 9 or 10 days, and our mountain treks are specially-designed to ensure a successful ascent while prioritising both your personal health and safety through proper altitude acclimatisation by our expert guides.
Only a short distance from the capital, and ideal for a day-trip excursion, the island was originally utilized by the ruling Arabs to detain their recalcitrant slaves, with later the colonial British building an additional yet unused jail on the site. The other main attractions are its beautifully-fringed coral reef that is perfect for snorkeling, its large resident population of giant Aldabra tortoises, and a marvelous white sandy beach and refreshment facilities for a day of complete sun-bathing relaxation.
The southern circuit is made up of four National Parks, namely Mikumi, Ruaha, Selous Game Reserve, and Udzungwa Mountains. This route is more ‘off the beaten track’ – not known by many companies – with much less tourism as a result, allowing for a more relaxing tour of the region. This bespoke can include each of the parks or just a few depending on how many days you have available. Easy flights into either Dar-Es-Salaam or Zanzibar International Airports are highly recommended for this trip, with a convenient Zanzibar Island beach extension easily be added onto your safari holiday.
The northern circuit consists of up to five National Parks that can be visited, namely Arusha, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti, and Tarangire. These bespoke tours can include all the parks or just a few depending on how many days you have available, and if you have special interests that you’d wish to experience. Easy flights into Kilimanjaro International Airport are recommended, and a Zanzibar Island extension can also be added to your safari.
