The Rongai Route offers a scenic and less-traveled path that starts on the northern side of Kilimanjaro, near the Kenyan border. This route is known for its relatively easier ascent and boasts a very high success rate for reaching the summit. During the trek, you’ll stay in warm mountain tents, with meals provided in our comfortable mess tents. To ensure your convenience, we also set up toilet tents with sanitary portable flush toilets at each campsite. After summiting, the Rongai Route connects with the Marangu Route for the descent. This combination allows you to experience Kilimanjaro’s breathtaking beauty from multiple stunning viewpoints on the south-eastern side of the mountain.

After an 11 p.m. wake-up call, at midnight, we begin the switchback climb to the summit on steep heavy scree, past the Rebmann glacier, up to Gilman’s Point located on the crater rim at an elevation of 5,700m or 18,700ft to take a short rest and be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise, with quicker hikers being maybe able to witness this exhillerating event from the summit itself. Regardless, this section is the most mentally and physically challenging section of the trek. Continuing up, on the gently-sloped final traverse of under one hour, fallen snow may be encountered as we cross the inner crater´s lunar landscape before reaching the summit of Uhuru Peak: the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the whole continent of Africa!

After taking photographs, we begin our descent from the summit by continuing back down and stopping for lunch and a rest at Kibo, before continuing onto Horombo Camp.
