Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and International Biosphere Reserve, the area benefits as a malaria-free micro-climate due to its slighty higher altitude. Its crown jewel is the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest intact walled volcanic caldera with a 610-metre sheer drop to the crater floor. It’s endless plains, lush grasslands, forests, and spring-fed lakes, ensure that both predators and grazers – Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Jackal, Hyena, Elephant, Buffalo, Eland, Wildebeest, Gazelle, Zebra, and the highly-endangered Black Rhinoceros – remain year-round, allowing for up-close encounters on either a drive safari or game walk as they all graze, drink, and wallow. There is also the option to visit the nearby Olduvai Museum and Gorge, a deep ravine where fossil remains of one of the earliest human ancestors – Homo habilis – was recently discovered, or to experience life in a local traditional Maasai village.
