Designated a national park due to its status as one of the world’s few remaining true virgin forests, this biologically rich woodland is a haven to many rare and indigenous plant and animal species, that is surrounded by breathtaking mountain and grassland scenery, Its dramatic landscape features a collection of towering rock boulders, fast-flowing rivers, and beautiful waterfalls, including the majestic Sanje River Waterfall which can be easily accessed by a gentle stroll. This unique park has large resident populations of Elephant, Buffalo, Leopard, Lion, and African Hunting Dog that thrive on the high plateau terrain. A short trek into the rainforest micro-climate, which includes two indigenous species of primates: the Iringa Red Colobus Monkey and the Sanje-Crested Mangabey – the latter identified as recently as 1979 – and harbours several newl- discovered bird species, promises to be an unforgettable experience.
